Frequently asked questions

What is the track rod end with left-hand thread used for?
The track rod end with left-hand thread connects the track rod to the steering arm through a ball joint on the front steering linkage. It transmits steering movement to the roadwheel while the joint articulates. Fitted to Land Rover Series 1, 2, 2A and 3 up to July 1974.
Which side does the left-hand thread track rod end fit?
The left-hand thread end screws into the matching left-hand end of the steering track rod. Track rods use one left-hand and one right-hand thread end so the rod can be turned to set front wheel tracking (toe) without removing it. Confirm your thread direction before ordering.
What are the signs a Series track rod end needs replacing?
Play or knocking in the steering, uneven front tyre wear, and a loose feel through the wheel all point to a worn track rod end. A worn ball joint typically fails an MOT. Replace it once the joint develops noticeable free play or the rubber boot splits.
Does this track rod end fit all Series Land Rovers?
This left-hand thread track rod end fits Land Rover Series 1, 2, 2A and 3 built up to July 1974. Series steering was revised after that date, so check your build date and confirm the track rod uses a left-hand thread end before ordering.
