De spurkogel verbindt de spoorstang met de stuurarm via een kogelgewricht, en geeft de stuurbeweging door aan het wiel terwijl het gewricht articuleert wanneer het wiel stuurt en de ophanging beweegt. De linkse schroefdraad schroeft in het overeenkomstige uiteinde van de spoorstang; door de stang tegen zijn tegengestelde schroefdraad te draaien, wordt de sporing van het voorwiel (toe) ingesteld.
