Frequently asked questions

What does the NRC2054 engine mount do on a Land Rover?
The NRC2054 is a rubber-to-metal anti-vibration mount that supports the petrol engine on the chassis frame. It isolates engine vibration from the body and absorbs movement under load. Fits the 4-cylinder and 2.6L 6-cylinder petrol engines on Land Rover Series II/IIA/III, and the 4-cylinder petrol engine on Defender up to 2006.
How many engine mounts are needed for a full replacement?
An engine typically uses two rubber mounts, one each side. Replacing both at the same time is recommended since worn mounts rarely fail in isolation, and access labour is similar for both.
Why do Land Rover engine mounts fail and what are the symptoms?
Engine mount rubber degrades through heat cycling, oil contamination, and age. Symptoms include vibration felt through the body, clunking on acceleration or gear changes, and visible cracking or collapse of the rubber. Failing mounts can stress adjacent wiring and hoses.
