The 600603 kit supplies the paper and fibre mating gaskets for the Series gearbox and transfer box casing joints. It covers both the gearbox and transfer box cases. Rubber output shaft oil seals are not included in this kit and must be sourced separately.

Which Series gearbox does this gasket kit fit?

It fits the Series 4-speed manual gearbox and transfer box across Series I (2.0L petrol), Series II and IIA (all engines), and Series III (2.25L petrol and 2.6L 6-cyl petrol). It's for the original 4-speed Series gearbox, not the later LT77 5-speed gearbox fitted to Defenders.

When should I use the Gearbox Gasket Kit 600603?

This kit is used during a gearbox or transfer box overhaul when the casings are split. It replaces all the paper and fibre joint faces to restore oil-tight seals between the mating surfaces. It's also the correct kit when oil leaks from the casing joints rather than from the shaft seals.

Does this kit include the oil seals for the output shafts?

No. Part 600603 covers paper and fibre casing gaskets only. Rubber output shaft seals are excluded and are listed separately. If you're doing a full overhaul, order the seal kit alongside this gasket kit to avoid a second disassembly.
