Why do timing chain guides fail on these V8 engines?
Timing chain guides wear because the guide face is constantly rubbed by the chain. As they wear the chain can rattle, especially at cold start, and worn guides are usually replaced together with the chain and tensioner on the AJV8 4.4 and 4.2 supercharged engines.
