Differentieelsim gebruikt in het differentieelhuis om de speling tussen kroonwiel en rondsel en de voorspanning van het lager van het differentieelhuis in te stellen tijdens de montage van de as.

De sim wordt geplaatst tussen het differentieellager en zijn behuizing, waardoor de laterale positie van het kroonwiel ten opzichte van het rondsel wordt aangepast, zodat de tandwieling voldoet aan de gespecificeerde speling en het tandcontactpatroon. Selectieve sims van verschillende diktes worden gebruikt om de tandwieling binnen de tolerantie te brengen bij het bouwen of reviseren van het differentieel.
