Frequently asked questions

What is the Oil Baffle (602172) and what does it do?
The Oil Baffle (602172) sits over the rocker shaft on top of the cylinder head on the Rover V8 petrol engine. It deflects and controls the oil reaching the valve gear, contains splash around the rocker arms, and directs drain oil back toward the sump for stable rocker lubrication.
Where does the oil baffle fit on the engine?
The oil baffle locates over the rocker shaft assembly on top of the cylinder head. On the Rover V8 it typically sits beneath the rocker cover, so you'll usually need to remove the rocker cover to reach or replace it. It's part of the engine's top-end lubrication path.
Why might the oil baffle need replacing?
The oil baffle can distort, corrode, or get damaged during rocker shaft work on the Rover V8. A damaged baffle won't direct oil correctly across the valve gear, which can cause uneven lubrication at the rocker arms. It's typically replaced whenever the rocker shaft assembly is disturbed for servicing.
