Frequently asked questions

What is the ALR7062 bonnet release cable and what does it do?
The ALR7062 bonnet release cable is the mechanical link between the cabin release lever and the bonnet catch on the Land Rover Discovery 1 (1989-1998). Pulling the interior handle draws the cable, releasing the latch so the bonnet can be raised. It's supplied as a complete inner wire and outer sheath assembly.
What are the signs the bonnet release cable needs replacing?
A stretched, seized or snapped cable is the usual sign. Typically the interior lever pulls with no resistance, or the bonnet won't release at all. On the Discovery 1 the inner wire can corrode inside the sheath over time, so the cable's replaced as a single assembly rather than repaired.
Where does the bonnet release cable run on the vehicle?
The bonnet release cable runs from the release lever inside the cabin, through the bulkhead, to the bonnet latch on the front body panel of the Discovery 1. It typically routes along the inner wing. Replacing it usually means feeding the new cable along the original path.
