Zijbalk is een structureel carrosseriedeel dat deel uitmaakt van de bevestigingsstructuur van de achterbank en zorgt voor de verankering van de achterbanken die naar binnen gericht zijn.

Vastgemaakt in de achtercarrosserie, draagt en lokaliseert het de stoelbevestigingen en draagt het de belasting van de opklapbare banken over op de omringende structuur. Een gecorrodeerde of vervormde zijbalk verzwakt de veiligheid van de stoelbevestigingen, dus wordt deze vervangen om een solide verankering te herstellen.
