Frequently asked questions

What is the BTR4022 heater bypass coolant valve and what does it do?
The BTR4022 is a vacuum-operated valve in the V8 HVAC coolant circuit that controls coolant flow to the heater core. In the bypass position it diverts coolant away from the core; when commanded open it lets hot coolant through for cabin heating. It works with the heater control vacuum circuit.
Which Land Rovers does this coolant valve fit?
The BTR4022 fits the Discovery 1 V8 up to VIN MA081992 and the Range Rover Classic V8 petrol from VIN MA647645. Confirm your VIN before ordering, as the heater circuit changed during production.
What are the signs the heater coolant valve needs replacing?
A failing heater bypass valve typically sticks or its vacuum diaphragm perishes, leaving you with no cabin heat or heat that can't be shut off. Coolant weeping from the valve body is another common sign on these V8 Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic models.
Where does this valve sit in the heating system?
The BTR4022 sits in the cabin heating circuit between the engine coolant feed and the heater core, actuated by the heater control vacuum line. It typically works alongside the heater control solenoid to switch the core between bypass and heating.
