What does the bulkhead do?
The bulkhead is the structural firewall that separates the engine bay from the cabin on the Defender. It forms the front mounting face for the pedal box, steering column, wiper mechanism and dash, and is a load-bearing part of the body.
Why is it called universal?
It's called universal because loose brackets are supplied so the panel can be adapted to the bracket variations used across the Defender's model years. Some minor modification to the transmission tunnel may be needed to suit different profiles, for example on V8 installations.
Which Defender does this bulkhead fit?
This bulkhead fits left-hand-drive Defenders from 1983 to 2006. It's the LHD version, so it won't suit right-hand-drive vehicles. Fitting a bulkhead is a major structural job usually done during a rebuild, so it's a workshop task rather than DIY.
