Frequently asked questions

What is the swivel ball?
The swivel ball is the spherical swivel housing on the Defender's front axle that the steering pivots around. It carries the hub and encloses the constant-velocity joint, and is a central part of the front axle and steering assembly.
What does castor corrected mean?
Castor corrected means the housing is machined so the steering axis is offset, restoring the correct castor angle after a suspension lift has reduced it. Recovering castor helps keep the steering self-centring and the Defender stable in a straight line.
When do I need castor corrected swivel balls?
You typically need castor corrected swivel balls on a Defender that's been raised with a suspension lift, where standard swivels leave the steering feeling vague or wandering. On a standard-height Defender the standard swivel is usually correct. They're fitted as a pair to the front axle.
