Frequently asked questions

What does the DAC4168-INT distributor cap do?
The DAC4168-INT distributor cap carries high-tension current from the central coil terminal, via the rotor arm, out to each plug-lead terminal so the spark plugs fire in turn. It closes the top of the distributor in a distributor-based ignition system and locates positively to maintain correct rotor-to-segment clearance.
Why does the distributor cap have vents?
The distributor cap is moulded with side and top vents that disperse the ozone and moisture created by the internal spark. Good ventilation reduces internal tracking and corrosion of the segments. When fitting, make sure the vents are clear and the cap seats fully on the distributor body.
What are the signs of a worn distributor cap?
A worn distributor cap usually causes misfires, hard starting, or rough running, especially when damp, as the high-tension current tracks across carbon or corroded segments. Cracks, burnt terminals, or a worn centre carbon brush are common. Inspect the cap, rotor and leads together since they wear as a set.
