The ERR6169 is the camshaft position sensor for the V8 EFI petrol engine management system. It signals camshaft rotation to the ECU so it can identify cylinder phase and time the sequential injection and ignition.
Where is this sensor used?
The sensor reads camshaft position on the 4.0 and 4.6L V8 EFI engine, letting the ECU sequence fuel and spark to the correct cylinder. Fits Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38 V8 EFI petrol.
What are the symptoms of a failing camshaft sensor?
A failing camshaft position sensor typically causes hard starting, misfires, stalling or fault codes as the ECU loses cylinder phase and defaults to a backup strategy. Replacing it restores correct sequential timing on the V8.
