The breather hose is part of the crankcase ventilation system on the V8 EFi petrol engine. It connects the rocker cover breather outlet to the induction ram housing, routing crankcase blow-by vapour back into the intake to be reburned. It fits Discovery 2 and Range Rover P38 V8 EFi petrol.
What happens when this breather hose fails?
A failed breather hose lets unmetered air into the V8 EFi intake, which typically causes rough idle, erratic running and raised crankcase pressure. The rubber usually perishes or cracks with age and engine heat. Replacing it restores correct crankcase ventilation and a stable idle.
