De aftakas brengt de rotatieaandrijving van de tussenbak over naar hulpapparatuur zoals een spil of lier. Deze middelste as draagt de aandrijving langs het voertuig tussen de PTO-uitgang en het aangedreven accessoire, en brengt koppel over terwijl de loopuitlijning van de aandrijflijn wordt opgevangen.
