Frequently asked questions

What does the FRC5656 diff lock switch do?
The FRC5656 differential lock switch mounts on top of the transfer gearbox. It senses when the diff lock is engaged and completes the circuit to the dashboard warning lamp, so the driver gets a clear signal that the diff lock is active.
Which Land Rovers use this diff lock switch?
This switch fits vehicles running the LT95 four-speed manual transfer gearbox: the Series III and 101 Forward Control, early V8 Defender 90/110/109, and the Range Rover Classic. It doesn't fit Discovery or modern Range Rover transfer boxes.
Where is the diff lock switch fitted?
The diff lock switch mounts on top of the LT95 transfer gearbox. It reads the diff lock selector position at the transfer box, which is why it sits there rather than in the cabin. Access is typically from under the vehicle.
What are the signs the diff lock switch has failed?
A failed diff lock switch usually shows as a warning lamp that won't light when the diff lock is engaged, or one that stays lit after it's released. On the LT95 box the switch can also leak or corrode over time, which stops it signalling correctly.
