What is the FTC4009 circlip used for?
The FTC4009 is a retaining circlip for the LT77 5-speed manual gearbox mainshaft. It seats into a machined groove on the shaft within the main gear cluster, holding a synchroniser hub in place along the shaft. It's used around the 1st/2nd and 5th gear hub of the LT77 box.
Which models use this LT77 circlip?
This circlip fits the LT77 gearbox used in the Defender (up to 2006), Discovery 1 (four-cylinder and V8) and Range Rover Classic. It's an internal mainshaft component, reached only with the gearbox dismantled for a rebuild.
How do I know if I need the LT77 clip and not the R380 one?
Check that your vehicle has the LT77 gearbox, not the later R380, before ordering. The LT77 was fitted to earlier vehicles and the R380 replaced it, and their internal circlips differ. Confirming which box you're rebuilding avoids ordering the wrong mainshaft clip.
