What is the FTC4992 synchro spring for?
The FTC4992 is a synchro spring ring from the R380 five-speed manual gearbox's mainshaft synchroniser assembly. It loads the baulk ring against the gear cone, matching shaft and gear speeds before the sliding sleeve engages, so gears mesh smoothly on the shift.
Why does the FTC4992 synchro spring cause poor synchromesh when worn?
A weakened spring ring reduces the pressure it applies to the baulk ring, so the ring doesn't match gear speed properly before the dog teeth engage. This shows up as crunching or resistance when changing gear, most often on third, fourth or fifth in the R380 gearbox.
How do I confirm the FTC4992 fits my specific vehicle?
