Frequently asked questions

What is the GA9011 ATB limited slip differential?
The GA9011 is an automatic torque-biasing (ATB) limited slip differential that replaces the standard open differential in the axle. It uses a helical gear set rather than clutch packs, so it behaves as an open diff under normal driving and biases torque to the wheel with grip when one starts to slip.
Will the GA9011 fit a Salisbury axle?
No. The ATB unit is explicitly not suitable for Salisbury axles, only standard Rover axle types front and rear. Fitting it to the wrong axle type isn't an option here, so confirm your axle design before ordering.
Why choose an ATB diff over a standard open differential?
An ATB diff automatically biases drive torque to whichever wheel still has grip the moment the other starts to slip, without locking the axle or needing driver input. This improves traction off-road and in slippery conditions compared to a standard open diff that sends power to the spinning wheel.
Does the GA9011 need special differential oil?
No special limited-slip additive is required. Since the ATB design has no friction plates or clutch packs, it runs on standard axle oil, unlike clutch-type limited slip differentials that typically need a friction modifier added.
Which vehicles take the GA9011 differential?
The GA9011 fits the Defender (1993 on), Discovery 1 (1993-1998), Discovery 2 (1998-2004), and Range Rover Classic (1993-1996), for both front and rear axle installations except Salisbury type. Confirm your axle type before ordering.
