What does the air conditioning blower switch do?
This blower motor resistor pack, also referred to as the air conditioning switch, controls the heater and air conditioning blower motor's fan speed. It sits in the blower housing behind the glovebox and drops the voltage delivered to the motor to produce the intermediate fan speeds.
What happens when this resistor pack fails?
When the resistor element fails, the blower typically runs only at its maximum setting, or stops working altogether, since the intermediate speeds all pass through the resistor pack. The highest setting bypasses the resistor and won't be affected.
Does this part need to be refitted in its original position?
Yes, it's mounted directly in the blower airflow so it stays cool in use, and it must go back in its original position for that cooling to work. Installing it elsewhere in the housing can cause it to overheat and fail early.
Which Discovery models use this resistor pack?
It fits the Discovery 2 (1998-2004), fitted as part of the air conditioning blower motor ancillaries.
