Frequently asked questions

What is the A/C receiver dryer on a Discovery 2 for?
The A/C receiver dryer conditions refrigerant on the high-pressure side of the Discovery 2 R134a system. It holds liquid refrigerant, traps debris and carries a desiccant that pulls moisture out of the circuit, preventing ice forming at the expansion valve and corrosion inside the components.
Why is the receiver dryer renewed during A/C work on a Discovery 2?
The receiver dryer is renewed because its desiccant has a limited service life and saturates with moisture once the circuit is opened. A spent dryer can't protect the Discovery 2 air conditioning from internal corrosion or expansion-valve icing, so it's replaced whenever the system is opened for repair or recharge.
Whereabouts does the receiver dryer fit on a Discovery 2?
This is the front receiver dryer on the Discovery 2, plumbed into the high-pressure liquid line between the condenser and expansion valve. It typically mounts at the front of the engine bay close to the condenser, as part of the R134a air conditioning circuit.
