De condensor is gemonteerd aan de voorzijde van het voertuig, vóór de radiator, en voert de door het koudemiddel geabsorbeerde warmte af, waarbij het hogedrukgas dat de compressor verlaat wordt gekoeld zodat het condenseert tot vloeistof voordat het naar het expansieventiel stroomt. Luchtstroom door de vinnen voert de afgestoten warmte af. Een lekkende of geblokkeerde condensor vermindert de koelprestaties en moet worden vervangen wanneer het systeem wordt gerepareerd.
