Frequently asked questions

What is the Parking Brake Spring Kit used for?
The Parking Brake Spring Kit holds the rear parking-brake shoes against the backplate on a Freelander 2. It includes the shoe return springs and hold-down retaining pins that locate the shoes and pull them clear of the drum-in-hat on release. Supplied as an axle set for both rear wheels.
How many kits do I need for both rear wheels?
One kit covers both rear wheels. It's supplied as an axle set, so you get the return springs and hold-down pins for the left and right rear parking-brake assemblies in a single kit. Replace both sides together so the handbrake balances evenly across the axle.
Why do parking-brake springs need replacing?
Parking-brake springs weaken and lose tension over time, which can leave the shoes dragging on the drum or failing to release fully on a Freelander 2. Tired springs and hold-down pins also cause a weak or uneven handbrake hold. Renewing them when servicing the shoes restores clean shoe return.
Does this fit every Freelander 2?
This kit fits the Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006-2014), all engines, up to VIN CH999999. It suits the mechanical cable-operated drum-in-hat parking brake, not an electric caliper handbrake. Check your VIN against the CH999999 ceiling to confirm before ordering.
