What does the LR003161 CV boot kit do?
The LR003161 renews the flexible boot sealing a constant velocity joint on the Freelander 2's rear driveshaft. It keeps the CV joint grease in and water and grit out; once the boot splits, the joint wears rapidly and fails.
How many kits are needed for both rear driveshafts?
Two. Each LR003161 kit serves one rear driveshaft CV joint, and the Freelander 2 uses one joint per side, so order two kits to cover both rear driveshafts.
Does this fit both automatic and manual Freelander 2 models?
Yes, it fits the Freelander 2 2006-2014 with either the 6-Speed Auto AWF21 AWD or 6-Speed Manual M66 AWD transmission, up to VIN AH148966.
Why does the CV boot need replacing before the joint fails?
A split or perished boot lets grease escape and dirt in, and the CV joint wears out quickly once contaminated. Renewing the boot early with LR003161 protects the joint and avoids a much more expensive driveshaft replacement.
