The thermostat housing on the Land Rover Defender 2.4 TDCi Puma diesel encloses the engine thermostat and connects the cylinder block to the cooling system hoses. It routes coolant through the thermostat to control engine temperature. It's a cast housing sitting in the coolant circuit at the engine.
Why would the thermostat housing need replacing?
The thermostat housing typically needs replacing when it cracks or leaks coolant, or when the thermostat itself is renewed. On the 2.4 TDCi Puma engine these cast housings can weep at the seams over time, causing coolant loss and running the engine hot. Renew it if you spot coolant seepage.
