What is the D3S headlamp bulb and what does it do?
The D3S is a mercury-free high-intensity discharge xenon bulb supplied with its igniter. It has no filament: light comes from an arc struck across two electrodes in a xenon-filled quartz capsule. The separate igniter generates the high-voltage pulse that strikes the arc.
Will the D3S bulb fit halogen headlamps?
No, the D3S only fits headlamp units originally built as bi-xenon or adaptive xenon assemblies. Halogen headlamps have no ballast or igniter circuit and can't run it, so confirm your car left the factory with xenon headlamps before ordering.
Does one D3S bulb cover both dipped and main beam?
Yes, in a bi-xenon projector one D3S bulb provides both dipped and main beam, with the change made by a moving shield inside the unit. So this single bulb is the light source for both functions on that headlamp.
Which models use the D3S bulb?
The D3S fits Discovery 4, Discovery Sport, Freelander 2, Range Rover L322 and L405, Range Rover Sport L320 and L494, and Evoque L538, all with bi-xenon or adaptive headlamps. Renew bulbs in pairs so brightness and colour stay matched across the car.
