Frequently asked questions

What is the LR020009 Thermostat for?
The LR020009 Thermostat regulates engine coolant flow between the engine and the radiator on the Discovery 4 2.7 V6 Lion diesel. It stays closed while the engine warms to bring it quickly to operating temperature, then opens to admit coolant through the radiator and hold normal running temperature.
Which vehicle does it fit?
This thermostat fits the Land Rover Discovery 4 (2010-2016) with the 2.7 V6 Lion diesel engine (140kW), from VIN AA000001. Confirm your engine and VIN before ordering, as other Discovery 4 engines use a different thermostat in the coolant path between engine and radiator.
Has this thermostat been superseded?
Yes, LR020009 has been superseded by part number LR020009LR, which is the current replacement thermostat for this application. Both cover the Discovery 4 2.7 V6 Lion diesel coolant circuit, so LR020009LR is what typically supplies in its place if the original reference has been updated.
What are the signs a thermostat needs replacing?
A failing thermostat usually shows as slow warm-up and a cold-running engine with poor cabin heat if it sticks open, or overheating if it sticks closed. On the Discovery 4 2.7 diesel, a stuck thermostat can also trigger coolant temperature warnings, so it's worth replacing when these symptoms appear.
