Axiaalstang (binnenste spoorstangeind) in het stuurmechanisme. Deze wordt op het uiteinde van het stuurhuis geschroefd en verbindt met het buitenste spoorstangeind, en brengt de zijdelingse beweging van het stuurhuis over naar de fuseearm, zodat het wiel draait. Het binnenste kogelgewricht maakt articulatie van het stuurmechanisme mogelijk terwijl de ophanging door zijn slag beweegt.

Geschikt voor de rechter- of linkerzijde. Wordt vervangen wanneer het binnenste gewricht speling krijgt of de stang verbogen is, om zo een precieze stuurrespons en correcte wieluitlijning te herstellen.

What is the steering rack connecting rod?
The steering rack connecting rod is the inner tie rod in the steering linkage. It threads onto the end of the steering rack and links to the outer tie rod end, passing the rack's side-to-side movement out to the road wheel. Its inner ball joint lets the linkage move with the suspension.
How many are fitted per vehicle?
Two are fitted per vehicle, one on each side of the steering rack. This rod suits both the right- and left-hand side, so a single part number covers either position. Replace them in pairs if both inner joints have worn, to keep steering feel even side to side.
What are the signs the inner tie rod needs replacing?
Play in the inner ball joint shows up as steering wander, a knock over bumps, or uneven front tyre wear. A bent rod upsets wheel alignment. Because it's part of the steering, have it checked and the alignment reset by a workshop once any play is found.
