The Door Lock Cover Plate Seal is a gasket that seals the lock cover plate against the door on the Defender up to 2016. It keeps water and dust out of the anti-burst latch mechanism behind the cover plate on the rear-end door.
Where does this seal sit?
This seal sits behind the lock cover plate on the rear door, between the plate and the door skin. It protects the door latch from water and grit, which is what causes latches to stiffen or corrode over time on the Defender.
Should the seal be renewed when the latch is removed?
Renew this seal whenever the cover plate or latch is removed, since a flattened or torn old seal typically lets water reach the latch. Line it up with the cover plate holes before refitting on the Defender rear-end door.
