What does the thermostat and housing do?
This combined thermostat and housing regulates coolant flow to the radiator by engine temperature, holding the engine at operating temperature and opening as coolant warms. It's supplied as a complete unit with the integrated housing for V6 and V8 petrol engines.
Why is the thermostat sold with its housing?
This part comes as a complete thermostat and housing assembly, so the thermostat isn't serviced separately. On these V6 and V8 petrol engines the thermostat is integrated into its housing, and the whole unit is replaced together. That avoids reusing an aged housing seal.
What are the signs the thermostat needs replacing?
Common signs are the engine running cold or slow to warm, or overheating if the thermostat sticks shut. You may get a coolant temperature warning or weak heating. On these petrol V6 and V8 engines a stuck thermostat also affects fuel economy and emissions.
Which petrol engines does this fit?
This fits petrol engines only: the 3.0 V6 SC on Discovery 4 (VIN EA000001-FA999999), Range Rover L405 and Sport L494, plus the 5.0 V8 AJ133 SC and NA on L405 and L494. It doesn't fit diesel models. Confirm your engine by VIN.
