What is the timing chain bolt used for?
This M12 x 1.5 x 40mm bolt secures timing gear on the 3.0L V6 diesel engine used across these Land Rover models. It's a genuine Land Rover fastener sized specifically for the timing drive, so using the correct bolt matters for a secure, correctly located timing assembly.
How many timing chain bolts are needed per engine?
Two of these bolts are used per vehicle on the 3.0L V6 diesel. They fit the Discovery 4 (2010-2016), Discovery 5 (2017 on), Range Rover L405 (2013 on), Range Rover Sport L494 (2014 on) and Range Rover Velar (2017 on). Order two if you're renewing the set.
Should the timing chain bolt be reused?
It's typically best to fit new timing bolts rather than reuse old ones when the timing drive has been disturbed, since critical fasteners can be stretched or fatigued. Renewing them during a timing job is good practice. Torque to the workshop manual specification when fitting.
