What does the EGR inlet gasket do?
The EGR inlet gasket seals the inlet joint of the low-pressure EGR circuit on the 2.0L AJ200 diesel engine, where recirculated exhaust gas rejoins the intake charge. It keeps that connection gas-tight and is renewed whenever the EGR inlet is disturbed during service.
Does the EGR inlet gasket need replacing every time?
Yes, replace the EGR inlet gasket whenever the EGR inlet joint is opened. These gaskets typically take a set after heat-cycling and won't reseal reliably once disturbed. Fitting a new gasket prevents EGR leaks, which on diesel engines can cause rough running and fault codes. It's a single-use seal.

What are the signs of a leaking EGR gasket?
Signs of a leaking EGR gasket include rough idle, reduced power, a hissing noise from the EGR connection, or EGR-related fault codes and a warning light. On these diesel engines an unsealed EGR joint upsets the intake charge. Replacing the gasket when the EGR is serviced restores a proper seal.
