Frequently asked questions

What is the rear air spring and what does it do?
The rear air spring is the air bag of the four-corner air suspension on the Discovery 5 (2017+). It replaces a conventional coil spring, holding the vehicle on a column of compressed air so the system can set and adjust ride height. This is the left-hand rear unit.
Why do rear air springs fail and what are the signs?
Rear air springs usually fail when the rubber bellows perish with age and mileage and start to leak. On the Discovery 5 a leaking air spring typically drops that corner overnight, makes the car slow to rise on start-up, or triggers an air suspension fault warning.
Is this air spring side-specific, and should I replace in pairs?
This is the left-hand rear air spring, so order by side and corner. Air springs typically perish at a similar rate, so many owners replace the rear pair together. The air suspension usually needs depressurising before removal and a fault reset afterwards on the Discovery 5.
