What is the vacuum pump sealing ring used for?
The vacuum pump sealing ring seals the joint between the vacuum pump and its mounting face on the engine. It contains the pump oil feed and prevents a vacuum leak that would degrade brake servo assistance, on Ingenium AJ200/AJ20/AJ21 engines.
Should this seal be replaced whenever the vacuum pump is removed?
Yes. Renewing the vacuum pump sealing ring is normal practice whenever the pump is removed from the engine, since the old ring will not reliably reseal the pump-to-housing joint once disturbed.
What happens if the vacuum pump seal leaks?
A leaking vacuum pump seal lets air into the vacuum circuit that supplies the brake servo, which typically reduces servo assistance and can affect other vacuum-actuated systems. It can also allow pump oil feed to weep at the joint.
