Frequently asked questions

What does the rear sill do on a Defender 110?
The rear sill is the lower body panel running along the bottom edge of the Defender 110 body behind the door aperture, on the left hand side. It forms the outer skin over the lower body structure and underbody flange, closing the gap between the body and the chassis rail.
Why do Defender rear sills corrode?
Rear sills sit at the lowest point of the Defender 110 body and catch water, mud and salt thrown up by the rear wheel. The flange where the sill meets the underbody traps moisture between panels, so corrosion typically starts there and works outward before it becomes visible from outside.
Is the rear sill a bolt on or a welded repair?
It is replaced as a complete unit, and on most Defender 110s that means cutting out the corroded panel, treating the lower body structure underneath, then fitting and sealing the new sill. Check the structure behind the sill before ordering, since it is often worse than the visible panel.
