Frequently asked questions

What is the LRT-12-094 viscous coupling wrench used for?
The LRT-12-094 is a service tool for removing and refitting the viscous fan coupling on Land Rover engines. It engages the flats on the large nut that holds the coupling to the water pump drive flange, letting you unscrew the coupling from the pump.
Do I need any other tool to use this wrench?
Yes. The LRT-12-094 wrench is designed to work alongside the counter-hold tool LRT-12-093. The counter-hold tool keeps the water pump pulley stationary while this wrench breaks the coupling nut loose. Without holding the pulley, the nut is very hard to undo safely.
Why do I need a special wrench for the viscous coupling?
The viscous coupling nut sits in a tight space behind the fan and is often done up tight and seized with age. A standard spanner won't fit or grip the flats properly. The LRT-12-094 is shaped to reach and grip the nut so you can free it without damaging the pump or coupling.
