Bovenste carterpakking voor de 2.0L Td4 dieselmotor, die de olie-dichte verbinding vormt tussen het bovenste carter en de onderkant van het cilinderblok.

De Td4 maakt gebruik van een tweedelig carter: een structurele aluminium bovenste carterbehuizing die aan de onderkant van het cilinderblok is geschroefd, met daaronder een geperste stalen onderste carterpan. Deze pakking dicht het aansluitvlak af tussen de bovenste carterbehuizing en het blok, waardoor olie binnen het smeercircuit blijft en de carterafdichting behouden blijft.

What does the upper sump gasket do on a Freelander 1 Td4?
The upper sump gasket seals the aluminium upper sump casting to the base of the cylinder block on the 2.0 Td4 (M47) diesel in the Freelander 1 (1997-2006). It keeps oil sealed within the lubrication circuit at the bottom of the engine.
Do I need the lower sump gasket as well?
Usually yes. The Td4 uses a two-piece sump, so the upper sump casting and the pressed-steel lower pan each have their own gasket. When the sump is dropped both faces are typically disturbed, so most workshops renew both gaskets in the same job.
How do I know the upper sump gasket needs replacing?
Oil weeping or dripping from the joint between the upper sump and the block is the usual sign on the Td4. Gaskets harden and shrink with heat and age, so it's typically renewed whenever the sump is removed for cleaning, oil pump access, or a leak repair.
