Frequently asked questions

What is the LVP100630L cam cover gasket used for?
The LVP100630L cam cover gasket seals the camshaft cover to the top of the cylinder head on the 1.8L K-Series petrol engine, fitted to the Freelander 1. It seals the valvetrain chamber, containing the oil that lubricates the cams and preventing leaks along the cover joint.
When should the cam cover gasket be replaced?
Replace the cam cover gasket whenever the cam cover is removed for valvetrain access, or to fix an oil leak along the cover-to-head joint. On the K-Series an oil weep at the top of the head is typically a sign the gasket has hardened or failed.
Can this be fitted at home?
Fitting the cam cover gasket on the 1.8L K-Series is typically a DIY job. The cam cover sits at the top of the engine and usually comes off after removing the cover bolts and any pipes or covers in the way. Clean both faces before fitting the new gasket.
