De moer klemt over de rand van een paneel of schuift in een gestanst gat, en positioneert zichzelf zodat een schroef vanaf de tegenoverliggende zijde in het schroefdraadgedeelte kan worden gedraaid. De veerkracht houdt de moer vast tijdens de montage en zorgt ervoor dat deze kleine trillingen kan opvangen zonder los te komen. Deze wordt vervangen wanneer het schroefdraad beschadigd raakt of de veerpoten hun spanning verliezen.
