What does the Radiator to Expansion Tank coolant hose do?

This coolant hose links the radiator to the coolant expansion tank on the Discovery 2. It accommodates coolant expansion and return as the system heats and cools, and carries vented air off so the cooling system can bleed properly. It's part of the engine cooling circuit.
