Frequently asked questions

What is the QJB100220 track rod end used for?
The QJB100220 is the right-hand outer track rod end on the Freelander 1 (1996-2006). It threads onto the steering rack and connects to the front hub steering arm, transmitting rack movement to steer the wheel while allowing for suspension travel.
Which side of the vehicle does this track rod end fit?
This track rod end fits the right-hand side only. On a Freelander 1 the left and right outer ends typically differ, so check you're ordering the correct side. The left-hand version is a separate part. Fitting the correct side restores accurate steering geometry.
What are the signs a track rod end needs replacing?
Signs a track rod end is worn include knocking over bumps, play in the steering, uneven front tyre wear, and steering wander. On the Freelander 1 a worn ball joint will usually fail an MOT. Replace it once free play develops in the joint.
Do I need to replace both track rod ends at once?
Track rod ends are sold individually, so one QJB100220 covers the right-hand side. Many people fit both sides together so steering wears evenly, but it isn't required. A wheel alignment is typically needed afterwards to reset the front toe setting.
