Frequently asked questions

What does the rear shock absorber boot do?
The rear damper boot shields the damper rod and its seal from grit, road salt and water thrown up by the rear wheels. Once the boot perishes or splits, that debris reaches the rod, scores it, and the damper seal usually fails soon after.
How many rear damper boots does a vehicle need?
Two per vehicle, one for each rear damper. They're supplied as a service kit, and fitting both at the same time makes sense since the dampers have to come off or be lowered to get the boots on either way.
Which vehicles does this rear damper boot fit?
It's listed for the Discovery 3 (2005-2009, VIN 6A392100 to 9A999999), Discovery 4 (2010-2016, from VIN AA000001) and Range Rover Sport L320 (2005-2013), all with air spring suspension. The VIN ranges matter here, so check yours before ordering.
Does this fit vehicles on coil springs?
No. This boot is listed for vehicles with air spring suspension only. Coil sprung versions of these models typically use a different rear damper arrangement, so check which suspension your vehicle has before ordering. Suspension type is the deciding factor here, not model year.
When should the boots be replaced?
Replace them whenever you're changing the rear dampers, and any time the existing boots are split, hardened or missing. A boot that's gone lets grit onto the damper rod, which is what usually kills a new damper early.
