What is the SU carburettor float used for?
The SU carburettor float controls the fuel level in the float chamber on the 3.5 V8 twin-carburettor petrol engine. It rides on the fuel and closes the needle valve as the chamber fills, holding a steady level for the jet. This is the left-hand carburettor float, supplied with gasket.
Which engines use this SU carburettor float?
This float fits the 3.5 litre V8 petrol engine with SU carburettors, as used on the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. It's the left-hand unit. Later fuel-injected V8s have no carburettor float chamber and don't use it.
Does the float come with a gasket?
Yes, this float is supplied with its gasket, so the float chamber joint can be resealed when the float is fitted. On the Range Rover Classic the float is also serviced as part of a carburettor kit. A fuel-logged or sunk float upsets the chamber level.
