What does the automatic gearbox extension housing gasket do?
This gasket forms the fluid-tight joint where the rear extension housing bolts to the main automatic transmission case. The extension housing carries the output shaft and rear oil seal, and the gasket stops automatic transmission fluid leaking from the back of the gearbox.
Where on the vehicle does this gasket sit?
It sits at the rear of the automatic gearbox, between the main transmission case and the extension housing that the output shaft flange and rear seal mount to. You'll typically reach it from underneath when the gearbox or extension housing is being resealed.
Does this fit manual gearboxes too?
No, this gasket fits automatic transmissions only. It suits the automatic gearbox on Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1 and Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. Manual gearbox models use a different housing and gasket.
