Bendix voor de Bosch-startmotor die is gemonteerd op de 3.5L V8 benzinemotor.

De bendix draagt het rondsel en een eenrichtingskoppeling (vrijloopkoppeling) op de ankeras van de startmotor. Wanneer de startmotor wordt bekrachtigd, wordt het rondsel naar voren geworpen om in te grijpen met de ringtandkrans van het vliegwiel en startkoppel naar de motor over te brengen; zodra de motor aanslaat, laat de vrijloopkoppeling het rondsel vrij draaien en ontkoppelen, waardoor de draaiende motor het anker niet kan terugdraaien.

Een versleten of vastzittende bendix uit zich in het niet inschakelen, een schurend contact met de ringtandkrans, of de startmotor die draait zonder de motor aan te drijven.

What does the starter motor drive do?
The starter motor drive carries the pinion and a one-way overrunning clutch on the Bosch starter armature shaft. When the starter is energised the pinion is thrown forward to mesh with the flywheel ring gear and crank the 3.5L V8; once it fires the clutch lets the pinion spin free. It's fitted to the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic V8.
Do I get a complete starter motor or just the drive?
This is the starter motor drive only, the pinion and overrunning clutch assembly, not a complete starter motor. It fits the Bosch-type starter on the 3.5L V8. Order this when the drive is worn but the motor itself is sound. Typically one drive is needed per starter.
What are the signs the starter drive is worn?
