Frequently asked questions

What is the contact set used for?
This contact breaker set is the mechanical switch in the ignition primary circuit of the Lucas distributor on the 3.5 V8 petrol engine. It opens and closes against the distributor cam to collapse the coil field and produce the spark. It fits the Series III Stage 1 V8.
What does fixed type mean here?
Fixed type means the contact plate has a locating pin on its underside that engages the distributor advance-retard base plate, holding it in position. Distributors are set up for either a fixed or a moving contact plate, so match the type to your distributor before ordering.
When should the contact set be replaced?
Renew the contact set when the points are pitted, burnt or worn, which typically shows as weak spark, misfiring or hard starting on the V8. The contact gap and dwell are reset on fitting. Clean points keep the Series III V8 ignition reliable.
