Starter Motor Drive Assembly is de rondselaandrijving van de startmotor, gebruikt op V8-benzinemotoren die zijn uitgerust met de Bosch-starter.

Wanneer de starter wordt bekrachtigd, wordt de aandrijfeenheid naar voren geduwd, zodat het rondsel in de vliegwielkrans grijpt en de motor start. De eenrichtingsvrijloopkoppeling laat het rondsel vervolgens vrij draaien zodra de motor aanslaat, waardoor de starter wordt beschermd tegen overtoeren voordat het rondsel zich terugtrekt.

Een versleten aandrijfeenheid zorgt ervoor dat de starter draait zonder te starten, tegen de krans schuurt of niet loskomt.
