The STC1963 is the front left-hand brake caliper for Discovery 1 models with solid (non-vented) front discs. It carries the brake pads and hydraulic pistons that clamp the pads against the disc under braking. An OEM AP Automotive caliper that mounts to the front hub carrier.

Which Discovery 1 does this caliper fit?

This left-hand front caliper fits the Discovery 1 with solid front discs, up to VIN MA (August 1992). Later Discovery 1 models moved to vented front discs and use a different caliper, so check your VIN and disc type before ordering this solid-disc unit.

Is this the left or right caliper?

This is the left-hand front caliper, so it only fits the left front position. It's handed and won't fit the right side. For the solid-disc Discovery 1 you'll typically want the matching right-hand caliper too if you're replacing both sides as a pair.
