Frequently asked questions

What does the STC8576 brake pad spring kit do?
The STC8576 brake pad spring kit retains the front brake pads in the caliper, holding them against rattle and locating them on the pad retaining pins. It fits front solid, non-vented disc brakes on the Discovery 1 and Defender.
What's included in the STC8576 kit?
The STC8576 contains the anti-rattle retaining springs and split pins only, not the pads themselves. For a complete pad fitting set it's commonly used with the RTC5001 brake pad retention kit. Order pads separately to match your front solid disc setup.
Does the STC8576 fit my front brakes?
The STC8576 fits front solid, non-vented disc brakes only. It covers the Discovery 1 from chassis (V)FA393361 to (V)WA799999 with metric solid front discs, and the Defender 1983 to 2006 with solid front discs. Vented disc setups use a different kit, so check your disc type first.
Should the spring kit be replaced when changing brake pads?
Replacing the spring kit with new pads is good practice, as the anti-rattle springs lose tension and the split pins fatigue over time. Worn springs let pads rattle and can allow uneven wear. On the Discovery 1 and Defender front solid discs, fresh springs help the pads seat correctly.
